Guardian: Report claims warring parties used rockets and hellfire missiles during civilian attacks
CAPTIONING: Amnesty International accused Israel of using white phosphorous and other weapons supplied by the US to commit war crimes in the Gaza strip in a report on Monday. The report calls for a global arms embargo against both Israel and Hamas.
MARK REGEV, SPOKESMAN FOR ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER EHUD OLMERT: The Amnesty report is fundamentally flawed and based on extremely problematic methodology. Firstly, it relies on the data provided by the authoritarian Hamas regime, data that is problematic, that many people have questioned its authenticity. And, secondly, the report ignores the complex combat situation, the difficult house-to-house fighting, the fact that Hamas deliberately brutalized the civilian population of Gaza, exploiting that civilian population as a human shield.
FAWZI BARHOUM, HAMAS SPOKESMAN (SUBTITLED TRANSLATION): This is an unfair and unbalanced demand that equates the criminal with the victim. In the eyes of the world today, the Zionist occupation and the Palestinian people, who are actually victims, are both seen as war criminals. We confirm that though there were no countries supplying weapons to Hamas, major world countries have been supplying nuclear and phosphoric weapons and weapons of mass destruction to the Zionist occupation.
