Professor Susan Himmelweit is Emeritus Professor of Economics at the Open University. Her research is on gender issues in economics, particularly those located at the boundary between employment and family care, including theoretical and policy issues in child and adult care, within household inequalities and gender budgeting. She is a founder member, past chair and currently coordinator of the Policy Advisory Group of the UK Women's Budget group, an independent voluntary organization that produces gender analyses of government spending plans, budgets and policies. She has been on a number of advisory boards, including most recently for the UK Equality and Human Rights Commission on "Fair Financial Decision Making" advising the UK Treasury on how to assess the equality impacts of its policies. She is an active member of the International Association for Feminist Economics and was its President in 2009.
