Alturrick Kenney is an experienced community leader and a seasoned public servant who previously served as the Deputy Mayor of the city of Newark and is a current elected member of the Newark Public Schools Advisory Board (NPS).
Alturrick has also been influential in furthering the efforts of working families through his tenure as Director of the Political Action Fund for the Communication Workers of America, Local 1039, where he represents more that 4,000 working people throughout the state of New Jersey. In 2006, as a Project Manager for Crest Community Development Corporation in Newark, NJ, Kenney served as the key mediator and director of strategic development for the construction of affordable housing units. As a member of the Newark Public Schools Advisory Board since 2011, Kenney advocated for a disparity study to increase awarded contracts for minority and Newark residents, voted against the closure of public schools, and worked with the district to help identify qualified hires for principal level positions.
