Mariah Parker

Mariah Parker is a hip hop artist and Ph,D. student in language and literacy education at the University of Georgia, and newly-elected county commissioner for the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government. She tours nationally under the name Linqua Franqa and has garnered attention from NPR and The New York Times for her performances at South by Southwest earlier this year. At 26 years old, she ran her last-minute campaign for commissioner on a platform of racial and economic justice and won by just 13 votes to become Athens’ first openly queer elected official.
