As Americans find themselves in 850 billion dollars in credit card debt, a House Financial Sub Committee and a full Senate Banking Committee pass two separate bills in an attempt to stop credit card companies' most abusive practices.
Well done AnHonestActivist. We should not let credit card company take advantage of me. My credit card never charged me interest except once when I forgot to pay on time. Even though I still don't believe I should pay interest just because I forgot it once, so I called them up and asked them to remove the interest, And they did! They know we have plenty of other choices, so don't be shy to call them up and request removal of interests.

I think ultimately the best defense that consumers can have against these guys is to get their own financial matters under control and quit carrying big balances on their revolving credit accounts. What better position for a consumer to be in than to be able to tell the credit card company to go screw themselves?
I had this kind of situation not long ago with the "pirates" at the infamous "what's-in-your-wallet" Capital One. Every month when I received my statement, I would pay the balance off. But for some odd reason, many times I would still get an interest charge showing up the following month. I looked at their fine print over and over again, but could not see where this was possible (actually, I think it may have had something to do with the types of charges I was making, or possibly with their "payment cycle" being different from their "billing cycle"). Anyway, I finally got fed up and sent them a nasty little letter that basically said "my account balance is 0.00,

For the last two decades U.S. households have become drunk on credit and the government has not only been standing by watching, they've been pouring the drinks-- last year household debt grew to 121% of U.S. income(1). But the government isn't even addressing this issue; actually they are implicitly, telling us to spend more. This bill is simply sweeping off some bread-crumbs to the peasants getting a little too noisy; it doesn't go nearly far enough. Compare this government action to how Big Bank is in trouble. It's ridiculous. How anyone can in a straight-face ask Obama if he is a socialist defies intelligence above a monkey. (1)House-hold Debt: http://mwhodges.home.att.net/nat-debt/debt-nat-a.htm

For me, this story just emphasizes how we lack any control over the legislature. The only thing we get is a table scrap smaller than a peppercorn flicked at us when they have a guilty conscious for raping us. Does anybody out there understand that the first trillion we gave to the banks could have wiped out all credit card debt? The banks would have still gotten their money, it's just that the taxpayer's bailout would have benefitted the taxpayers also. Does anybody understand that the second trillion could have been used to build 10 MILLION homes for people, instead of just giving it to banks? (Just ask Habitat for Humanity. A solid, decent 2-3 bdrm home can be built for $100K). Does anybody understand that the third trillion could have been used to forgive $100K off the mortgages of TEN MILLION homeowners. IT"S OUR MONEY!!! Instead of doing something for ourselves, we are allowing a system we have tolerated so far, to completely rip us off. And sitting on your butt at home is not

There was much talk of "THIS BILL" but in this video there is no mention of the 'title' of the Bills being mentioned, nor the "H.R. #' associated with the Bill(s).

Big Business & Big Government working together ... what a shock! I don't have a lot of hope that this will get through both the House & Senate and get a signature from the President. Too many politicians have accepted campaign contributions for "We the People" to matter much.
