what a load of crap. It was never intended to be a "long war". The Americans believed they could turn things around quickly.
It was a strategic screwup from day one. | Uhlinger 2009-03-09
crisis and bailout, when referring to Paulson and the other hustlers he said, "It's sorta surprising that people haven't dragged them into the street and hung them" If you want a complete low-down of what an honest conservative is about I'd suggest his wiki bio at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Craig_Roberts | Uhlinger 2009-03-09
being thrown a bone in between its other more serious duties of solidifying power for the NWO. The more research I do, the more I come to see the validity of what Alex Jones is saying. His video End Game is simply required viewing if anyone wants to know where this is all going. It's available at abovetopsecret.com (http://media.abovetopsecret.com/media/41/End_Game_Alex_Jones_Part_1/) And if there are any conservatives out there that still think "9/11 was an inside job" is for left-wing conspiracy nuts, I would refer you to what the "Father of Reagonomics", Paul Craig Roberts, PhD, Asst. Secretary of the Treasury for Ronald Reagan said in a radio interview recently. To quote, "I never believed 9/11 because I had engineering training at Georgia Tech and I could tell when a building is being blown up by explosives. Any fool can look at those films and see that the buildings aren't falling down, they're blowing up." And if you want to know his opinion of the current financial cr | Uhlinger 2009-03-09
A nice panel. Informed and rational viewpoints. Something you don't see many other places. It's also nice to see that people in the comment section are aware of the connection between the CIA and the drug trade. I had no idea the far reaching extent to which the CIA was involved until I read Crossing the Rubicon by Michael Ruppert. And while focusing a light on that may or may not be good (most people still cannot believe the US government orchestrated 9/11 in spite of the overwhelming evidence. http://www.ae911truth.org/ ). So showing people the facts of drug production and CIA involvement will probably just have them shouting "conspiracy theorist" and sticking their heads back in the sand (or wherever). But I don't think picking on the CIA is important here, nor do I believe we go into these countries just so the CIA can make some money. They just happen to know a gravy train when they see it, and given the murderous and ruthless tendencies of the NWO, the CIA is pretty much bei | paul 2009-03-09
Wait for the next segments . . . there is quite a bit of discussion about the drug trade | shallowpro 2009-03-09
Echoing what brian said below, this debate ignores the REAL issue of why the USA is in Afghanistan. It is a fact that Afghanistan is now supplying the CIA with over 90% of the world's supply of poppy seed and heroin production. In fact, as the Taliban came to rise in Afghanistan, poppy seed export dropped to 0%. Some argue this was due to price fixing, but that is beside the point. Once the US government took over, poppy seed opium production and exports basically became rampant. Check out State of War, by James Risen. | neoconbuster 2009-03-09
What are we there? It depends who “WE” are. All the different elements have different objectives: Neocons, Politicians, Military Industrial Complex, Big Oil (Including Gas) Etc. GREED and POWER would be the best description. As the First speaker said, the main gold was OIL and second the GAS PIPE already planned by UNOCAL long before 9-11. The professor should remember M. Moore Movie Fahrenheit 9-11 he can see here (http://www.freedocumentaries.org/film.php?id=33). So, you can call it whatever you prefer: Conspiracy? Detailed Plan to Control Resources? Criminal Agenda? | brian 2009-03-09
I am surprised that opium poppy production was not mentioned. Clearly, in 2000/2001 poppy growing was down to about 1600 hectares. By 2006 it was was well over 200,000 hctares, this is supported by the UN finding "Poppy cultivation for 2006 was estimated at 172,600, compared with 107,400 hectares in 2005, 206,700 hectares in 2004, 61,000 in 2003; 30,750 in 2002; 1,685 in 2001; 64,510 in 2000; and 51,500 in 1999. Potential opium production for 2006 was estimated at 5,644 metric tons, the equivalent of approximately 664 metric tons of potential heroin production, if all were processed. Total poppy eradication in 2006 is estimated at 15,600 hectares."
All in all, this is the only major change due to our involvement in Afghanistan. | DJ2008 2009-03-09
Any viable understanding of Afghanistan's importance to Anglo-American interests necessitates a reading of "The Grand Chessboard", written by Zbigniew Brzezinski back in 1996. It is indeed about oil and natural gas pipelines/access, in a wider battle with China, Russia, India, Iran and others for energy/land control. Quit dwelling on the phrase "conspiracy theory" and focus solely on the chess game at large. | salgreco 2009-03-09
Thanks for an exciting and informative discussion about Canada's involvement in the Afghan War. My personal feeling is that we should never have been there to begin with, in a fighting capacity. The US was more than able to handle the actual battles which were over and done with within weeks, as far as I understand. The US is still there (and involving Canada) for some reasons other than "winning a WAR", which I feel ended long ago, with US victory. The rest should be handled by Iraqi Police, (-with the aid of Canada and the US, if they require and ask for it).
If the motivation for the war is as Sunil Ram states,- and I think it resonates, then it's amazing how greedy and unethical governments can be (-both US and Canada).
