    Lawyers demand judges be reinstatedZAA NKWETA, PRESENTER: Lawyers in Karachi, Pakistan, held protests today, demanding that the judges dismissed by President Pervez Musharraf be reinstated. President Musharraf replaced members of the judiciary during the November state of emergency with judges of his own choosing. Deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry rallied supporters from house arrest, telling them that victory is not far off. Protests also took place in Lahore and Quetta as lawyers clashed with government forces. We go to this report from The Guardian.

    (TEXT ON SCREEN): Police fired tear gas at nearly 100 protesting lawyers in Karachi with protests also taking place in Lahore and Quetta. The lawyers are demanding that opposition leaders reverse the dismissal of judges imposed under emergency rule.

    MUSHTAQ JAHANGIRI, VICE PRESIDENT OF KARACHI BAR ASSOCIATION (SUBTITLED TRANSLATION): Our demand is that all laywers should be free and the judges restored. Also, the judiciary should be restored and free. The judiciary should be restored in Pakistan. The media should be free, and until all these things are restored our protest will continue.
