| Designing North America's first offshore wind farm | |
| Uploaded by AlJazeeraEnglish on Dec 8, 2011 Professor Habib Dagher is building the first offshore wind farm in North America that will float off the coast of Maine - a state that some consider to be the Saudi Arabia of wind power. Test models have performed well in the laboratory, but the farm's real turbines will need to stand up to the region's bleak weather. If they do work, experts believe that they can generate enough electricity to power the US four times over. Critics, however, worry that the cost of such a development will be passed on to consumers, as the US has no formal energy policy. Al Jazeera's John Terrett reports from Maine. | |

| Stricter insider trading bill for US Congress | |
| Uploaded by AlJazeeraEnglish on Dec 6, 2011 A bill first put forward five years ago to stop United States politicians from trading inside information is closer to becoming law. Congress is looking at a new law to block Senators and its members from using information picked up in committees, reports and briefings to play the stock market -- essentially insider trading. Data shows that nearly 1536 members of Congress outperform the stock market by about 6 to 10 per cent on a regular basis. But that may soon be a thing of the past. Al Jazeera's Alan Fisher reports from Washington. | |

| Hopes Fade for Binding Climate Deal as Durban Summit Enters Final Stages: Carbon emissions at highest in history and rising | |
| Uploaded by democracynow on Dec 7, 2011 DemocracyNow.org - Democracy Now! is broadcasting from Durban, South Africa, in a week-long exclusive at the United Nations Climate Change Conference. Talks have entered their tenth day, but doubt is growing that a legally binding deal to combat climate change will be reached by Friday. On Tuesday, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon acknowledged that such a deal is "beyond our reach" for now due in part to the global financial crisis. But Ban urged world leaders to preserve the Kyoto Protocol, which binds some of the largest historical polluters to binding emissions cuts. | |
