| Hopes Fade for Binding Climate Deal as Durban Summit Enters Final Stages: Carbon emissions at highest in history and rising | |
| Uploaded by democracynow on Dec 7, 2011 DemocracyNow.org - Democracy Now! is broadcasting from Durban, South Africa, in a week-long exclusive at the United Nations Climate Change Conference. Talks have entered their tenth day, but doubt is growing that a legally binding deal to combat climate change will be reached by Friday. On Tuesday, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon acknowledged that such a deal is "beyond our reach" for now due in part to the global financial crisis. But Ban urged world leaders to preserve the Kyoto Protocol, which binds some of the largest historical polluters to binding emissions cuts. | |

| Trickle down -- forget it | |
| Published on Dec 5, 2011 by Euronews http://www.euronews.net/ Another nail has been driven into the coffin of the theory that if the rich became richer wealth would trickle down to the poor. Research by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development think tank shows the divide between the rich and the poor is growing in most of the world's major economies and is at its highest level in decades. It blamed spending cuts on social programmes and lower taxes on the wealthy. | |

| Hartmann: Corporate Personhood for Dummies | |
| Uploaded by TheBigPictureRT on Dec 6, 2011 Your Take, My Take is the segment of the show when we answer your questions, comments, criticisms and opinions here on "The Big Picture." Since the seventh century - the 600s - when British common law was first codified, there have always been two types of "persons." "Natural Persons" are human beings like you and me. "Artificial persons" are governments, churches, and what over the years has evolved into the modern corporation. Both have a form of "personhood" so both can pay taxes, own land, and be parties to lawsuits. But for 1500 years, everybody understood that there were different rules for natural persons and artificial persons. The constitution, for example, starts out with the words "We The People," a clear reference to natural - not artifical - persons. And it pretty much stood exclusively for natural persons - human beings, until the late 1800s. | |
