| Glenn Beck: Independents Outnumber Democrats First Time in 70 years - Obama's out of control spending? | |
| Obama's rampant spending is scaring moderate Democrats from the Party. They can see the writing on the wall. They realize that we cannot spend at this rate without consequence; the country will eventually go bankrupt. This would seem to be the Republicans chance to jump in and take power in Washington DC, for are they not the Party of fiscal responsibility? I for one would say that they are not. While they might have been in the past, and they have always talked the talk, they have not in recent years walked the walk. They are now acting like they are the Party of less spending, and less government growth, but that is only true if you compare them to the Democrats. They are still the party of more spending and more government growth, but just at a lower rate, so do not be fooled. Although in their defense, while the federal government did increase in size while they were in charge of the purse strings from the mid 90s until 2006, the deficits actually decreased in size as a percentage of GDP. So I guess it could be said that the Republicans are not in favor of as big of a government as the Democrats, but that they are still in favor of a big government, or at least that is what their actions have shown us. The fact of the matter is that Obama, if left to do as he pleases, will bankrupt this nation. So what can be done about this big government trend that we find ourselves in? I guess one answer is that we could start spending less money, ha ha. But who, or what group is going to volunteer to take less federal money? Is it you, is it your district? Are you willing to write your representative and ask them to stop bringing home the bacon, for the sake of your country? Basically this government that we have is the government that we the people deserve. We are the ones who vote, and without our votes, these self-serving politicians would not be in office. So I say to you that the solution must start with the people. It is us who must change. As soon as we change, then you will see a change in the politicians, for after all, they do represent us, in more ways than one. jbranstetter04 Charts and graphs source: http://www.heritage.org/Research/Features/BudgetChartbook/Obama-Budget-Would-Create-Unprecedented-Deficits.aspx Independents outnumber Democrats, Republicans WASHINGTON — Barack Obama's presidency has ushered in an era of centrism, with the country experiencing such a boost in independent voters that they now make up the largest proportion of the electorate in 70 years. This fickle group doesn't have uniform opinions, so its dominance carries potential risks for emboldened Democrats and opportunities for out-of-power Republicans. A new, expansive Pew Research Center survey that contained those details also found that the nation's values haven't fundamentally changed. The country hasn't become more ideologically liberal or conservative despite sweeping Democratic victories at all levels of government last fall and shrinking GOP ranks. Broadly, the findings indicate that it's politically dangerous for the new president and his fellow Democrats who control Congress to move too far to the left on domestic and foreign issues, lest they turn off middle-of-the-road voters whose support was critical in 2008 and will be important in upcoming elections. The results also suggest that the public recently has rejected the GOP for poor performance, not because it disagrees with the party's positions on key issues. That means beleaguered Republicans looking to rebound must convince voters they are still good stewards of those values while improving the GOP's image and morale. Overall, the report contains much that's likely to hearten energized Democrats looking to build upon Obama's popularity for lasting success and much that could further discourage Republicans seeking rebirth after back-to-back losses in national elections. "There's certainly a lot of bad news for Republicans and better news, if not good news, for Democrats," said Andrew Kohut, director of the nonpartisan center that conducted the survey. He said both sides should take particular note of this finding: "Independents are very much the trump card these days and their views are not all one way."
