| Glenn Beck: How Iran's Government works - with diagrams | |
| The protesters in Iran are dying in the streets over their inability to pick a President who was chosen by their Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, does that make any sense? I would say yes, because they have to start somewhere. If they are willing to die to gain such a small morsel of freedom, then should not the American people support such bravery? And more importantly, should not the President of the United States openly support such bravery? Obama's silence is deafening, especially to those who are dying in the streets of Tehran. | Germanys Merkel Demands Iranian Election Recount | |
| German Chancellor Angela Merkel is demanding a recount of Irans recent election. Merkel becomes the first leader of a major Western power to publicly demand a recount. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is urging the Iranian leadership to allow peaceful protests and recount votes cast in its disputed election. [Angela Merkel, German Chancellor]: (female, German) Germany stands behind the people and peaceful demonstrators in Iran who want to make use of their freedom of speech and who want to gather peacefully. Merkel called on Irans leaders to stop using violence against demonstrators, release detained opposition members, and allow free media reporting. Merkel also said Iran could earn trust from the international community by inviting observers to oversee a vote recount. [Angela Merkel, German Chancellor]: (female, German) I believe doubts could easily be eliminated by repeating the vote recounting to make it transparent, if necessary with international observers. Trust could then be restored. The German Chancellor is the first leader of a major Western power to publicly demand a recount. | |

| Crisis in Somalia: Thousands Flee Violence in Mogadishu | |
| Thousands of Somalians have fled the battered city of Mogadishu as fears of a raging insurgency rise. A state of emergency has been declared and the government is seeking help from neighboring countries. They have nowhere to go but they say they can't stay in their homes any longer. Thousands of civilians are fleeing Mogadishu because the danger of being caught up in violence is just too great. [Mumina Abdi, Displaced Woman]: (Female, Somali) "We don't have enough money, we don't have any materials to build a shelter for my children. I used to wash clothes for a living and we used to stay in the Karan district but we had to leave. We are helpless during the rainy season." Two law makers have been killed in the Somali capital over the past two days alone. And fighting between government forces and hardline Islamists is again on the increase. 30 died in a suicide bomb attack on Thursday. The cabinet has declared a state of emergency and is asking neighbouring countries for help. It says extra troops are needed to fight the militants because hundreds of foreign fighters have now joined their ranks. More than four-thousand peace keepers from the African Union are in the country. But they too are under constant attack. Three-hundred people have died in Mogadishu since early May. Western countries fear if the chaos continues groups linked to al Qaeda will threaten the stability of neighbouring countries. | |
