| 12,000 tons of radioactive water from Fukushima to be dumped into ocean | |
| Uploaded by RussiaToday on 4 Apr 2011 Tokyo has announced plans to dump nearly 12,000 tonnes of radioactive water from the Fukushima plant into the ocean. A spokesman for the crippled facility said it's necessary to free up storage space for more highly contaminated water, but insisted the waste wouldn't cause serious harm. Japanese officials predict months of leaks from the Fukushima power plant as workers struggle to plug a damaged reactor. Radiation levels in seawater and groundwater surrounding the site have reached many thousand times the legal limit. Last month's massive earthquake and tsunami has now claimed the lives of 12 thousand people, with some 15,000 still missing. | |

| Judge Goldstone Retracts Part of His Report on Israeli Assault on Gaza, Leaves Rest Intact | |
| SEE Goldstone Op-Ed article below in News & Analysis / Democracy Now! 4 Apr 2011 The lead author of The Goldstone Report on the 2008-2009 Israeli assault on Gaza has backtracked on one of his key findings. In an editorial run Friday by the Washington Post, Judge Richard Goldstone said, [quote]Civilians were not intentionally targeted [by Israel] as a matter of policy.[end quote] Now Israel has called on the United Nations to retract the report on the devastating war that led to the death of about 1,400 Palestinians, including hundreds of civilians, and 13 Israelis. To discuss the implications of Judge Goldstones position, we are joined by Adam Horowitz and Lizzy Ratner. They are co-editors of an abridged version of U.N. investigation, titled, The Goldstone Report: The Legacy of the Landmark Investigation of the Gaza Conflict. [quote]The judge only comments on one small part of the report,[end quote] Horowitz says, [quote]which I take as an implication that the rest of the report stays intact and he is still in support of that.[end quote] | |

| Deadly mistakes in the battle for Libya | |
| From: AlJazeeraEnglish | 2 Apr 2011 The NATO strike that hit a pro-democracy convoy outside of the eastern town of Brega killing at least 10 people may have been a mistake. Although the population in the country's east is prepared to forgive the mistake, there is less sympathy is other parts of Libya. Such incidents may have just given Muammar Gaddafi's spokespeople propaganda ammunition. Al Jazeera's Laurance Lee reports from Benghazi. (02 April 2011) | |
