CSPAN | 23 June 2010 | 8:53 President Obama announced that he had accepted the resignation of General Stanley McChrystal as commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan. He said that he would nominate General Petraeus to the position. General McChrystal had made comments published in Rolling Stone critical of civilian leadership in the Obama administration. In his remarks President Obama praised General McChrystal's dedication, but said that his conduct eroded the trust needed to complete the mission. He also said that he remained committed to the mission and strategy for operations in Afghanistan.
