The Real News Network seeks a seasoned Development Director with at least ten years of experience managing large donor, foundation and major donor fundraising for a media organization. This position reports to the CEO and helps to secure the organization's budget.
TRNN is a news and documentary network producing independent and uncompromising journalism. Our news operation is based in Baltimore with national and international bureaus. The Real News Network investigates, reports and debates stories concerning the critical issues of our time. Our stories are viewed over 6 million times a month. The network is non-profit, supported by members, individual donors and foundations. We do not accept advertising, or government or corporate funding.

Duties and Responsibilities
Work with senior management to implement and track an annual fundraising plan to meet immediate revenue needs while building long-term sustainability
Participate in strategic development planning at the project level to ensure revenue for shows and programming.
Drive stewardship activities such as coordinating donor meetings with the CEO and building tours
Lead a small but energetic fundraising team to success, providing mentoring and training as needed.
Expand upon our culture of fundraising by coaching key staff members to utilyze their public and community presence to help drive revenue.
Continually immerse yourself in TRNN’s content and be conversant in our mission, and editorial values
Master writing fundraising appeals, proposals and in TRNN’s voice
Manage, drive and expand large donor, foundation and major donor fundraising
Maintain accurate data on development activities using Excel and Salsa CRM / Razor’s Edge
Help craft and execute a comprehensive individual donor program with emphasis on large-dollar gifts
Leverage The Real News’ current events and cultivation activities
Identify and diversify prospects through research and conversations with existing donors
Help implement direct mail and email campaigns
Help grow and sustain a thriving grants program by securing investments from foundations
Contribute creative and practical ideas for donor outreach and engagement
Work with development team on grant and report writing activities
Engage in prospect research and outreach
Build and maintain relationships with local and national foundations and other organizations
Execute fundraising and cultivation events in the Baltimore area and beyond by developing effective working relationships with volunteers, sponsors, and community leaders
Ensure event promotion, logistics, and follow-up are professionally planned and implemented
Establish new events to better engage current and prospective donors and community leaders
Create the overall event strategy that aligns with the organization and revenue goals
Evaluate, select, and manage outside vendors and service providers
Provide regular reports and analysis on development activities
Bachelor's degree, Master's preferred, with at least 10 years of development experience in a media organization
Demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively; strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills with ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
Ability to build and implement annual strategic development plan
Familiarity with or ability to learn and use Excel, Salsa CRM, Razor’s Edge, Slack, Basecamp and Trello
Comfort in direct solicitation efforts
Ability to take direction from senior management and accept creative criticism
Demonstrated capacity to work independently without close oversight when needed, and also work with a team and productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority, internally and externally
Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
Experience working with marketing and communications functions, social media, and collateral development a plus
Willingness to travel throughout the year
