LOCATION: Ottawa with occasional travel to Toronto and Montreal
REPORTS TO: Senior Producer
SALARY: Compensation negotiable based on experience (competitive with non-profit news media sector)

Prism is an online not-for-profit magazine that provides in-depth coverage and analysis of security related issues that are often not in the mandate of the mainstream press. Accountability, transparency and good governance are also part of Prism’s mandate as these subjects are very much intertwined with security practices. In short, Prism brings its readers views and news that matter.

IWT - The Real News Network is a news and documentary network producing independent and uncompromising journalism. Our news operation is based in Washington DC with bureaus in Baltimore, MD, Toronto, Canada, Cairo, Egypt, Tel Aviv, Israel/Palestine and soon in China. The Real News Network investigates, reports and debates stories concerning the critical issues of our time. Our stories are viewed over 6 million times a month. The network is non-profit, supported by members, individual donors and foundations. We do not accept advertising, government or corporate funding.

We are searching for an energetic multi-media broadcast journalist with at least 3-5 years of daily news experience. As the ideal candidate, you are an avid national and international news junkie preoccupied with issues of national security, foreign policy and civil rights. You have a deep understanding of geo-political issues and can provide historical and analytical context in your news stories. You know who is who in the national/international scene in the decision-making centers. You will bring a critical perspective to conceiving, organizing, and developing content for daily news broadcast. You must be able to write to visuals and provide clear and concise editing notes and visual coverage.

Responsibilities:
* Generate news stories by communicating clearly and concisely in English
* Tell stories with great attention to facts, and think “outside the box “
* Conceives and develops news program ideas, experts and concepts
* Preparation of daily news content for review by the Senior Editor
* Gathers research and visuals for your own stories and edits them for publishing

Education and Experience Required:
* A relevant graduate or post-graduate university degree or equivalent experience
* Position requires at least 3-5 years of broadcast journalism or documentary producing experience
* Excellent knowledge of Canadian, US and international politics
* Daily news-cycle experience necessary
* Experience with Final Cut editing platform
* Experience with news agency content, delivery and acquisition processes
* French is an asset
