It is of course too early to decipher `J Streets` true aims.Typical of Zionist tactics is the management of dissent.Taking opposing views etc. to carefully gain control of the discussion by encouragement and agreement with some views while playing them off against others. The jewish manipualted media does the same by running seemiingly conflicting outlets eg. books- trashing all those who don`t obey agenda though heavy hitters like President Carter can get one through. To succeed J. street will need a white megaphone cue and a crib sheet (eg.TIP -The Israel Project) and paid bloggers like Shil on call.(The rotting carcass of the US, consumed from within by maggots, is of course being used by zionists not the reverse.) Today for 7 days BBC radio 4 online carries a. AMarr`s interview with Slomo Sand on the myths of jewish history and the bogus nature of political zionism. There was no exile folks sorry!

aloo/jimbob: Kudos. Hard-hitting, but balanced, discussion. I can't recall the speaker, but years ago, an Israeli politician said something to the effect that Israel uses the U.S. against the Palestinians, and likewise, the U.S. uses Israel against the Arabs. Geo-political relationships are always complex. Emotive motivations can only lead to disaster. Objective, but cordial, critical analysis (as you are doing) is the best way to determine what are our long-term best interests, and how to serve those interests.

jimbo, I agree. If someone were to have claimed in this discussion that US foreign policy is driven exclusively by Israeli interests I too would have heard anti-Semitism in their statement.

aloo, I couldn't agree with you more. The United States maintains a close political, economic, and military relationship with Israel because it serves the interests of the defense establishment, high tech industry, and the American empire more generally. Suppose the U.S. army wanted to test a new weapon system in the field, such as weaponized white phosphorous. Who better to test it than the IDF? And who better to test it on than the hapless Palestinians? Israel’s victory in the 67 war also helped crush secular nationalism in the Arab world, which had been a pesky thorn in the side of the U.S. These are just two of several examples by which Israel has provided invaluable services to its patron and master, the U.S.A. AIPAC is indeed powerful, as are the ADF and other apologists for Israeli militarism, but to claim that US policy is entirely dictated by these groups ignores the political-economic reality and, at least to me, smacks a bit of Anti-Semitism.

Cont'd: On the US side it’s the corporate interests, the Military Congressional-Industrial Complex, and control of oil supplies that drives these war policies, not the pathetic dreams of a few million well-managed dupes that through their votes put the hand-picked, bought-and-paid-for, political shills of this constituency in office.

On the other hand, just as utopian thought police have hijacked the voice of the left, on the right a small group of populist demagogues has taken control from the moderates and traditional “small c” conservatives using the language of xenophobia, by pandering to a nostalgic desire among poor and working class whites to return to an idealized past. These ignorant and manipulated millions include the so-called “Christian” right. And while the leaders of this group - the demagogues themselves - are white, protestant, and fanatically anti-communist, and are the traditional enemies of the so-called “Jewish Internationalists” in America, they are now in bed with Zionist extremists, a powerful US lobby, on the basis of their fundamentalist beliefs regarding Israel’s role in the oncoming Apocalypse. In actuality these fundamentalist beliefs are useful only to create the political support needed to help keep the wars in the Middle East going. On the US side it’s the corporate interests, the Mi

Aloo: You're right! :-)

aloo 2009-10-30

3MD, Thank you for your response. I'm not sure I made the point you attribute to me, but if I was unclear then please allow me to clarify: My point re the left is that regardless of the anti-Zionist sentiment that my exist among liberals, evidence of which which you point to on this very website, what you get coming from the liberal establishment in the mainstream press tends to be very uncritical of Israel. In fact, the entire debate seems to have been framed in terms of "Jewish settlers" and "Palestinian terrorists" for as long as I can remember. Images of armed masked arabs and dead or horribly wounded Israeli civilians being carried on stratchers are burned into our consciousness. To publicly question the political viewpoint behind this manipulation gets you branded as "anti-semitic" by the pc mainstream left.

@ Aloo (cont’d): While the right wing may be widely, but misleadingly, characterized as "Israel does no harm -- ever", it can be said that the left just as often indicates that "none of Israel’s actions could possibly be sufficiently ‘good’ to justify its existence". Back to your original point, like you, I too am heartened by the addition of JStreet’s moderating effect. Now I’d welcome the introduction of greater moderation from the left…

MickeyMouseMustDie 2009-10-29

aloo: JStreet and other Jewish groups do seem to reflect growing diversity of opinion in N.A. Jewry – a counter weight, which can't hurt (although I’m not saying I agree with all of JStreet’s policies, either). So, like you I welcome their participation. However, I do strongly differ with you on a separate point that you make. I would say that in the main, leftist views deny Israel's legitimacy, i.e. it's very right to exist. Posters on this very website frequently make comments that are beyond aggressive, beyond hostile, in their antipathy for Israel. For example, the comment below is tame compared to others which outright lend support to violence towards Zionists, and make repugnant, racist comments. Posters on this website will just as frequently make such comments as they make anti Neoconservative comments, so it’s fair to say their views are expressive the left. While the right wing may be widely, but misleadingly, characterized as "Israel does no harm -- ever", it can be sai

Finally!

aloo 2009-10-27

Apart from the issue of lobbyists, this may be a sign that disussion in the US may finally be opening up on the Isreal/Palestine issue after so many decades of stifled debate. Political correctness from the left seems to say that, because of the holocaust, criticism of Isreal comes out of anti-semitism ... period. While the conservative Christian right appears to hold the State of Isreal above all worldly criticism on religious grounds. Both of these completely irrational viewpoints have either prevented or distorted any real and open discussion of the real issues in the US media or political arena.

aloo 2009-10-27

LiberalChiroDoc, with all due respect the last thing the US needs is another lobby group of any type. Campaigns should be publically financed. Elected officials should be beholden to no one save their respective constituents. Legalized bribery aka lobbying should be un-legalized. Americans need to wake up and take their country back.

J Street must embrace Iranian President ' proposal of relocating the illegitimate state of Israel in Alaska; a most compassionate, altruist and magnanimous offer such as the one suggested by this world leader won't ever be proposed again. Alaska is the REAL promised land!

LiberalChiroDoc 2009-10-27

J Street is EXACTLY what the U.S. needs to be get away from the disastrous foreign policy road that AIPAC has led the U.S. down for decades. I truly hope they succeed.

As a Palestinian, I think in the sake of peace that, J street is a step in the right direction, but only a small step. Much is needed to erase lots of hatred and animosity that radiates from the Israel side. I would like to see and hear J street say and advocate the removal of ALL Israeli colonies in the West Bank, they are ALL Illegal and must be removed, also the immediate and unconditional end of the GAZA Siege. That would be a good start in order to right the wrongs and atrocities that has been committed upon the Palestinian people for the last 61 years...
